Richard Allen Dix, age 80, of Janesville, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly, from complications of renal failure.

Richard was born on July 15, 1932, in Cedar Falls, the son of Harvey and Mabel (Rogers) Dix. He was raised in rural Janesville and graduated from Janesville High School in 1950. In 1953, Richard entered the United States Army where he served in Japan during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955. Richard was united in marriage on June 25, 1961, to Sharon Clark at Trinity United Methodist Church in Hazelton. He spent his entire life as a self-employed farmer, running his truck garden and general farming.
Richard was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly for more than 50 years. He also belonged to Farm Bureau, Cattleman's Association, and was active in the Bremer County Republican Party. Richard also served on Bremer County Zoning Board, Bremer County Board of Adjustment and as a Jackson Township Trustee.
Richard's memory is honored by: his wife of 52 years, Sharon, of Janesville; a son, state Sen. William (Gerri) Dix, of Shell Rock; two daughters, Melinda (Ed) Szynalski, of Rochester, Minn., and Michelle (Tony) Smith, of Lake Mary, Fla.; eight grandchildren; three brothers, Deforest (Carol) Dix, of Janesville, Larry Dix, of Janesville, and David Dix, of Mount Vernon; and a sister, Patricia (William) Bowen, of Reinbeck. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Karen Dix.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly. Burial will follow at West Point Cemetery in rural Janesville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 25, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Richard's family and online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
