Darlene Gring, age 75, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2014 at St. Anthony Hospital in Michigan City, Ind.

Darlene was born in Waverly, Iowa on Aug. 1, 1938, to Loren and Esther (Kuethe) Arns who preceded her in death.

Darlene is survived by her son: David L. (Pam) Gring, Valparaiso, Ind.; daughters: Diane K. (Andrew) Sperling, Michigan City, Ind., and Julie M. (Rich) Sosa, Long Beach, Ind.; former husband: David P. Gring; eight grandchildren: Dana Rafferty, Matthew Sperling, Kyle and Tyler Sosa, Ryan, Lauren, Nicholas, and Grace Gring; sister: Karen L. Johnson, Burnsville, Minn.; numerous nieces and nephews; Darlene was preceded in death by her son, Daniel D. Gring.

Darlene's greatest joy was being a Mother and Grandmother. She was a teacher for thirty-two years at St. Paul Lutheran School. She touched the lives of hundreds of children, which she felt was very rewarding . She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, a Sunday School teacher and administrator, Associate in Ministry, member of Delta-Kappa-Gamma, and a member of Faith Circle.

She graduated from Wartburg College with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1960. In 1984 she graduated from Purdue University with a Master of Science in Elementary Education.

Visitation for Darlene will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2014 from 1 until 5 p.m. at Geisen-Carlisle Funeral & Cremation Services located at 613 Washington St. Michigan City, Ind.

Funeral Services will take place on Monday, March 24, 2014, 10 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 818 Franklin St., Michigan City, Ind. with Pastor Mark Reshan officiating. ( For those not attending the burial, please use additional parking available behind First Presbyterian Church at 8th and Washington Street).

Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City, Ind.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church or School.
