Donna Mae Mennenga, 78, of New Hope, Minnesota and formerly of Waverly, Iowa passed away on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014 at the Minnesota Masonic Home Northridge in New Hope, Minnesota.

Donna was born on Jan. 7, 1936, in Butler County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Helen (Wedeking) Klunder. She was raised in rural Clarksville and graduated from the Plainfield High School in 1954. While in high school Donna worked at Poppe's Grocery and Restaurant in Clarksville and Brigg's Grocery in Plainfield. On June 6, 1954, Donna was united in marriage to Bob Mennenga at Pleasant Valley United Church of Christ in Clarksville. The couple resided in Manhattan, Kansas until Bob was discharged from the United States Army and in 1955, moved to Plainfield, Iowa. The couple then started their family and Donna spent her time as a homemaker and worked for Carnation in Waverly from 1965 to 1969.

Donna was a member of the First Baptist Church in Waverly and was passionate about passing her beliefs and values on to her children. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and baking. Donna wrote her own cookbook which included family recipes and genealogy. However, what Donna enjoyed most was her husband of 54 years, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Donna is survived by her five children, Debra (Gene) Sherburne of Andover, Minnesota, Cynthia (Dan) Sweeney of Lynchburg, Virginia, Julie (Tim) Herman of Plymouth, Minnesota, Jeffrey (Mary) Mennenga of Robbinsdale, Minnesota, and Larry Mennenga-Low Dog of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and special family members, Scott and Janine Johnson of Waverly, Iowa; eighteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Leonard (Myrna) Klunder of Maquoketa, Iowa; and a sister, Lois (John) Boeck of Waverly, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Mennenga on March 17, 2012; her parents and a sister, Sharon Skillen.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 28 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Waverly with Pastor Brian Wilkens officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Clarksville. Visitation will be on Thursday, February 27th from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also an hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Memorials may be left to either Cedar Valley Hospice of Waverly or First Baptist Church and online condolences may be left at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home of Waverly is assisting the family with arrangements.
