LuVern Arthur Tiedt, 77, of Waverly, died on Monday, March 3, 2014, at Unity Point Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

LuVern was born on Feb. 17, 1937, in rural Waverly, the son of Arthur and Esther (Thiemann) Tiedt. He was raised in rural Waverly and attended Warren Nos. 26 and 27 through the fourth grade, St. Paul Artesian Parochial School through eighth grade, and Waverly High School through 10th grade. LuVern later obtained his General Education Degree from Hawkeye Community College in 1993. He served in the Iowa National Guard from 1954 to 1962. On May 26, 1957, LuVern was united in marriage to LuEtta Nuss at St. John Lutheran Church – Buck Creek, rural Sumner. The couple made their home in rural Waverly where they farmed together until retiring in 1982. When not busy on the farm LuVern worked as an electrician, custom spraying, and combining for farmers in the area and moving snow for the church and neighbors.

LuVern was a lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church Artesian, where he was baptized in 1937, confirmed in 1951, and throughout his life served as head usher, elder, secretary, and treasurer. LuVern enjoyed fishing, camping, old western movies, and singing, however, what he enjoyed most was spending time with his family.

LuVern's memory is honored by: his wife LuEtta, of Waverly; a son, Darren, of Waverly; a daughter, Juneal (Kraig) Gindling, of Waterloo; six grandchildren; and a sister, Nadean Bruns, of Waverly. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ellen Riechmann.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 6, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where the family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 7, at St. Paul Lutheran Church Artesian rural Waverly with the Rev. Keith Brustuen officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Artesian Lutheran Church cemetery.
