Richard L. "Dick" Cousin, 86, of Waverly died on Sunday evening, April 7, 2013, at the Waverly Health Center, Waverly, from complications of pneumonia.

Dick was born on July 23, 1926, in Alden, the son of Walter and Ruth (Hager) Cousin. He graduated from Alden High School in 1943. Dick then attended Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls for two years. He enlisted in the Army Air Force Reserve in October 1943, but was not called to active duty until January 14, 1945. He served in the Army-Counter Intelligence Corp during the "Manhatten Project" and was honorably discharged as a Sergeant on August 25, 1946. Following his discharge, Dick returned home and continued his schooling at the University of Iowa, where he graduated in 1949, with a business degree.
On June 9, 1951, Dick was united in marriage to the love of his life, Doris M. "Deb" Bentley at the Presbyterian Church in Ames. The couple made their home in Waverly, where Dick worked for the State of Iowa as a bank examiner from 1951- 53. Dick then worked at the State Bank of Waverly for 25 years before moving to Oskaloosa in 1976. Dick worked for the Iowa Trust and Savings Bank of Oskaloosa for 13 years, where he was the President and C.E.O. until retiring in 1989, following 38 years in banking. The couple moved back to Waverly in 1989. Deb died on March 6, 2012, and Dick continued to live at his home in Waverly.
Dick is survived by his three sons and their wives, James and Brigit Cousin of Waconia, Minn., Robert and Malissa Cousin of Waverly, Thomas and Anne Cousin of Stilwell, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; six great-granddaughters; with two great grandchildren due in July and September of this year; a sister, Helen (Gar) Schneider of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister-in-law, Vera Wilhoit of Batavia; one brother-in-law and his wife, Allan and Evelyn Bentley of Ames; and several nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Deb; a son, Paul William Cousin; and a sister-in-law Donna.
Celebration of Life Services will be held on Friday, April 12, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, with Pastor Bill Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly, with military graveside rites conducted by the Waverly Area Veterans Group. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also for an hour prior to services on Friday at the church.
