Murel Robert "Bud" Dorman, 88, of Waverly, Iowa, died early Wednesday morning, Oct. 9, 2013, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

Bud was born on June 26, 1925, in Goodwin, S.D., the son of George and Anna (Humphrey) Dorman. He was baptized and confirmed as an adult on April 7, 1950, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly. Bud graduated from the Goodwin High School in 1943. Following his schooling, he helped his parents on the home farm and on Dec. 20, 1944, Bud was inducted to the U.S. Navy and served during WWII as a Yeoman Third Class. Bud was honorably discharged on July 15, 1946. On July 3, 1950, Bud was united in marriage to Josephine H. "Jo" Weires at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly. To this union, five children were born: Mary Jo and Thomas (twins), Patricia, Michael and Susan. The couple made their home in Waverly, where Bud worked for Carnation & Swiss Valley, and then began Bud's Carpet Cleaner Service, retiring in 1973. On March 26, 2010, Bud joined his wife, Jo, as a resident of the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community and that same day his loving wife of over 59 years died.

Bud is survived by his three daughters, Mary (Bonnie) Winninger-Dorman, Patricia (Michael) Howell and Susan (Douglas) Bast, all of Waverly; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Melva DeVine, of Pipestone, Minn.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Josephine H. "Jo" Dorman, in 2010; his two sons, Thomas J. Dorman, in 1975, and Michael A. "Daffy" Dorman, in 2003; three brothers, Jack, Lynn and Arnold Dorman; two sisters, Mamie Siegfried and Alice Gresch; one brother-in-law, John Wieres; and five sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Korn, Catherine Carpenter, Agnes Nygren, Janice Fink and Carol Weires.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly, with Rev. Lyle Wilgenbusch presiding. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Waverly with military graveside honors conducted by the Waverly Area Veterans Honor Guard. Public visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 11, from 3:30 to 7 p.m. with a Rosary at 3:30 p.m. led by the Knights of Columbus and a public scripture service at 7 p.m. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly.
