Roger C. Nelson, 90, of Waverly, Iowa, died on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the Waverly Health Center.

Roger was born on June 18, 1923, in Duluth, Minnesota, the son of Carl and Edith (Sandbloom) Nelson. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Duluth. He graduated from Duluth Denfeld High School in 1941. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II from August 26, 1943 through May 3, 1946. He was united in marriage to Donna Marie Moquin on July 25, 1953 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Duluth. He worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad in Duluth and from 1959-1992 he was employed with the Chamberlain Corporation in Waterloo. Roger retired on February 1, 1992. He was an avid sportsman, gardener and loved his family.

Roger is survived by his wife, Donna of Waverly, Iowa; three sons, Randy Nelson of Lakewood, Colorado; Mark (Wanda) Nelson of Avondale, Arizona; and James (Andrea) Nelson of Lewisville, Texas; a daughter, Mary (Al) Eliasen of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; six grandchildren, Jami Nelson, Garrett, Valerie, and Lindsay Eliasen; and Kyra and Spencer Rojas; two sisters, Beatrice Windall of Naperville, Illinois and Marilyn (Clancy) Leverenz of Donna, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Owen Windall.

Memorial Services will be held on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Joyce Sandberg officiating. Private Burial of his cremains will be held in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Military Rites at the grave will be conducted by the Waverly Area Veterans Honor Guard. The family will greet friends and family on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also for one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.
