Buell A. Bortree, Jr., 78 of Honesdale, died on Friday, March 1, 2013 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Helen L. Corcoran on December 12, 2001.
The couple married on July 25, 1953.
Born on August 26, 1934 in Lookout, PA, he was the son of the late Buell A. Sr. and Jesse Hazen Bortree.
Buell was a graduate of Damascus High School. Early in his life he was employed at Carley Brook Lumber in Hancock.
Later he worked at Katz Underwear Factory and retired from the Wayne Highlands Middle School where he worked in maintenance.
He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church and a life member of the Cherry Ridge Fishing Club.
Buell loved fishing, square dancing, calling BINGO and following the "Old Time Fiddlers."
Buell will be remembered as a very kind man with a great sense of humor. He was a great friend and neighbor.
Surviving are his sons Dan and wife Carol of Rileyville, Bud and wife Grace of Dyberry, Brian and wife Cindy of Oneida, NY and Rich and wife Beth of San Antonio, TX; his daughter Kelly Snedeker and husband Jon of Kenoza Lake, NY; a brother John Bortree of Equinunk; sisters Virginia Wolfe and Diane Finch both of Berwick, PA; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers Russell, Ray, Ronald and Bill and a sister Bonnie Corcoran.
Funeral services were held on Monday, March 4th at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.

Mr. Bortree was always a happy, pleasant, and most helpful worker at the Middle School where we shared many nice chats. I have fond memories of him. My sincere sympathy to the family who have lost a great man!
