Carmody, Kathryn Frisch - Honesdale  
Kathryn Frisch Carmody, 43, of Honesdale, died peacefully, Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Wayne Memorial Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family. She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Carmody. The couple married on September 10, 1999. Born on June 22, 1971 in Honesdale, she is the daughter of Richard and Miriam "Mima" Fritz Frisch. She was a graduate of Honesdale High School, class of 1989. Kate owned and operated Kate's Creative Hair Design in Honesdale. An active person, she enjoyed running and especially enjoyed her time with her friends at spinning class at Lake Region Fitness. She adored her two cats Sadie and Tiggie. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish where she practiced her spirituality. Family was key in Kate's life, spending time with her beloved husband and daughter and going to the beach. Also surviving is her daughter Lindsey Tylar Carmody, a brother Thomas M. Frisch and wife Suzie of Honesdale; sisters Susan Frisch and Stephen Lacinski, Sara Gallik and husband Scott and Kristen Frisch; mother and father –in-law Robert V. and Florence M. Carmody all of Honesdale.; niece Taylor and nephew Tanner. As per her request, cremation services are being arranged by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Dec. 23rd at 10:30 at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Honesdale.

Ciraolo, Barbara Joan - Honesdale  
Barbara Joan Ciraolo, beloved wife and mother, passed December 11, 2014 at age 78. Barbara's physical presence will be missed but her person will always be with us along with the love, enthusiasm and hospitality she expressed to "all". A courageous and generous woman who will always be with us. "Mother-earth" that she cultivated with such care will also miss her presence, but she will always be there. Barbara is survived by her husband, Angelo J. Ciraolo, 4 children and 10 grandchildren. Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1935, she worked in the legal profession and relocated to Honesdale in 1970, raised her family and managed the family business. At this time, she helped to establish the Wayne Memorial Coalition to bring physicians into the Honesdale Area. On her journey, she developed a love for agriculture and was an avid gardener. BJ's Herb, Vegetable and Flower Garden became her work focus. Barbara enjoyed the farm and the people in her community. Barbara's passion for the arts led her to become accomplished in the culinary arts, a skilled needle worker, dressmaker and fine artist. Her love for music, throughout her entire life, led her to become a member of the St. John's Choir. A public mass, given by Rev Gregory Reichlin, will be held December 29, 2014 at 10:00am at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 150 Terrace Street, Honesdale, PA 18431. In lieu of flowers, please forward donations to St. Jude's Children Hospital.

Hower, Katherine (Cashman) - Teaneck  
Katherine, (nee) Cashman Hower, 80, of Teaneck, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Kenneth Sigmund. Devoted mother of Douglas K., Thomas R., and Kathleen S. Munter. Loving grandmother of Natalie and Evan Hower; Peri, Augustina, Kiera Mae and Peter Munter. Katherine attended Longfellow School in Teaneck and was a Teaneck High School graduate, Class of 1952. She then attended Pembroke College in Brown University, Class of 1956. Katherine worked for the Social Security Administration prior to owning a restaurant with Kenneth in Paramus, NJ. She was a former President of the Whittier School PTA, past president of the Teaneck League of Women Voters, secretary of the Ho-Ho-Kus Women's Club, Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Leader, Member of the Council of the Boy Scout Troop 33. In her retirement she spent many happy summers at Craft Lake, in Lakeville, PA, traveled the world on many wonderful trips and sat on the beach at her beloved Bonnet Shores, RI. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Monday, December 22 from 6-9PM, at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Rd., Teaneck. Funeral Mass Tuesday, December 23, 10AM at St. Anastasia's R.C. Church, 1095 Teaneck Rd., Teaneck. All to meet at Church. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Church Cemetery, Ledgedale, PA. Martin, George E. - Honesdale, Pa  
George E. Martin, 78, of Honesdale, PA passed away on December 20, 2014. He was born in Union City, NJ and raised in Brooklyn NY. He was a Staff Sargent in the Marines from 1953 – 1959, but he was always a Marine. He retired as a truck driver from Frito-Lay in Kirkwood, NY in 1991 after 20 years of safe driving. He then drove bus for Head Start in Susquehanna and Wayne County for 14 years He drove limo for Cove Haven and then retired to woodworking and flea markets. He loved building birdhouses, going to the flea markets and getting a good deal. He was a loving husband, father and an amazing grandfather. He touched many lives with that sparkle in his smile, his endless stories and humor. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Luise Martin, his sisters Betty and Rosemary, and his brother Tommy. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Marion (Breidenstein), sisters Barbara (Dave) Eggan, Margie McDonnell, brother John (Janie) Martin, daughters, Carol (John) Nebzydoski of Pleasant Mount, PA, Linda Martin of Nyack, NY, Diane (Jeff) Carson of Springville, PA, Molly (Shannon) Rhoads of Skaneateles, NY, Vicki (Mark) Mullen of New Milford, PA, a son George (Melissa) Martin of New Milford, PA and a bonus daughter, Angela (Joe) Erschens of Herndon, VA. He had 14 Grandchildren, Tiffany Nebzydoski, John Nebzydoski, Jennifer Nebzydoski, Amber Charles-Pierre, Monica (Robert) Pantucci, Mark (Brandy) Ralston, Joshua Ralston, Scotty Carson, Rachel Rhoads, Damon Martin, Micah Mullen, Alec Martin, Grant Martin, Madison Martin and two great-grandchildren Barron & Claira. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 27th at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale. Friends may visit Saturday, 10 to service time. Military burial is planned for the spring. Donations may be made to either the American Heart Association or The Young Marine's Honesdale PA.

Remsen, William Frederick "Bill" - Bellingham  
William "Bill" Frederick Remsen, 82, of Bellingham, WA, died peacefully on December 8, 2014. Bill was born in Brooklyn, NY on September 16, 1932. His parents, James & Frances, moved the family to Pleasant Mount, PA where Bill gained two sisters and reputation as a prankster. In 1950, Bill graduated from Pleasant Mount High School and joined the Air Force. He soon found himself stationed in Fairbanks, AK, where he married Dorothy Bergdahl and began his own family. Bill loved Alaska, camping, fishing and hunting. He took his boys hunting as soon as they were old enough. After 22 years in the Air Force, Bill retired in 1972. He then joined FAA for 9 years before he moved over to the State of Alaska administration. In 1981 he was widowed, then remarried in 1985 to Jeanette Burrell. Bill retired fully in 1986 and moved to Sudden Valley in Bellingham, WA. There he began his pursuit of the perfect game of golf. He and Jean divorced in 1989. In 1990 he and Dorys Beecher got together and remained a loving couple until his death. For 22 of those years, they wintered in Arizona where they golfed and traveled. Bill finally achieved his perfect "hole-in-one" on April 19, 2003 at the Trilogy Golf Course in AZ. Bill is survived by his partner, Dorys Beecher of Sudden Valley, WA; his children, Kathi (& husband Steve), Kevin (& wife Kimb), Alan, Carol and Glen (& wife Dina); 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Dolores O'Neill of Honesdale, PA and Diane Varner of Acworth, GA; and numerous nephews & nieces and their families. At his request there will be no services. He will be interred at the National Cemetery at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER) in Anchorage, AK.

Resti, Anthony Patrick - HANCOCK  
Anthony Patrick Resti, 26, of Wellington, Florida, died unexpectedly on December 16. He was born in Binghamton, NY, to Patrick Resti and Sherri Resti. He worked for Clarke, a global environmental services company in Florida. He graduated from Hancock Central High School in Hancock NY and attended Northampton Community College in Bethlehem PA. He also volunteered for the Americorp in Maine. Before moving to Florida, he worked for Leeward Construction, Honesdale PA, in the blacktop division. Anthony was a smart, handsome, fun guy with a giant heart that matched his light-up-a-room smile. His laugh was contagious. He didn't judge anyone and accepted others for who they were. Tough and soft at the same time.  He loved his family. Unfortunately, Anthony struggled with the challenges of addiction and lost his battle. Anthony said "A ship is always safe when it's docked in the harbor, but that's not what ships are made for – they're made for the open ocean." Surviving are his parents Sherri (Bennett) Resti, her companion Rich Thomas, Patrick Resti, his wife Laura Resti, his siblings Emma, William, and Lilly Long, and Jeanne-Marie Thomas, his maternal grandparents Lloyd and Shirley Bennett, many cousins, uncles, aunts, and friends, and the love of his life, Richelle Dufton. Ant was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Patrick and Constance Resti, his Uncle Robert Resti, his Aunt Catherine Resti, his cousin Kate Resti, his Great Grandparents Merle and Dorothy Roney, his Aunt, Susan Brooker, and his cousin Lisa DaBrescia. Calling hours were held on Sunday, December 21 from 5-8 pm at the Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Home in Hancock NY. There will be a funeral service on Monday December 22 at 10 am at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Hancock NY. Burial will follow at the Lake Como Cemetery in Lake Como, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations for funeral expenses and a charity TBD be sent to Sherri Resti, 44 Kane Road, Starlight, PA 18461 Arrangements by Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock.

Tuttle III, Lawrence E. - Honesdale  
Lawrence E. Tuttle, III, of Honesdale died Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Wayne Memorial Hospital , Honesdale. Lawrence was the son of Lawrence E. Tuttle, Jr of Honesdale and Phyllis Card of Greentown. Lawrence loved driving truck and enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents he is survived by maternal grandmother, June Card of Greentown and paternal grandmother Shirley Tuttle of Forest City; step-mother, Pat Tuttle at home; two brothers, Frank Tuttle of Greentown and Andy Tuttle of Waymart; four sisters, Jennifer Cobourn of Greentown; Penny Adams of Tyler Hill; Carol Gombita of Honesdale, and Dawn Marie Carroll of Honesdale, numerous aunts and uncles. Friends may visit the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 Main Street, Honesdale on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 PM . Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 7:00 PM in the funeral home by Pastor John Hardman-Zimmerman.

Tveter, J. Kenneth - Woodloch Springs  
J. Kenneth Tveter, age 80, of Woodloch Springs, Hawley died Thursday, December 18, 2014 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Honesdale. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janice Syre Tveter. Born May 18, 1934, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Johan and Camela (Granum) Tveter. Prior to his retirement he was a carpet installer for Gundolt Carpets. Prior to moving to Woodloch Springs 18 years ago, he had been a resident of Brooklyn and New City, NY. Mr. Tveter was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Rowland. He had been a former member of the F&AM in Haverstraw, NY. He enjoyed golfing in his free time. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Mark Tveter of Brooklyn, NY, Laura Brunette and her husband John of Cartersville, GA, Thomas Tveter of Rockland Co., NY, Lisa Nowell and her husband Chris of New Canaan, CT, and Douglas Tveter and his wife Catherine of Seattle, WA; 13 grandchildren: Jeffrey, Lauren, Christopher, Jason, Kenneth, Kevin, Christina, Julie, Eric, Jack, Sean, James and Matthew; one brother: Harry Tveter of Huntington, NY; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Saturday, December 20, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM and Sunday, December 21, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PMat Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. Weiss, Sally (Shair) - Honesdale  
Sally Shair Weiss, 83, of Honesdale died December 24, 2014 at Visiting Nurse Association Hospice in Scranton. Born July 10, 1931 in Scranton, Penn., she was the only daughter of the late Jean and Sam Shair, formerly of Scranton, Jersey City, NJ and Honesdale. Sally served as President of Lakewood Oil Co. in Honesdale for more than 20 years. Until the company's 2007 sale to Firmstone Oil Co., Lakewood Oil had been run by her family for more than 80 years, first by her Uncle Harry R. Baldinger and then by her father Sam Shair. After graduating from Barnard College in New York City in 1953, Sally worked as buyer at Orbach's department store in New York City and then as a public relations associate at Barnard. In 1958, Sally married Dr. Leonard Weiss, who was also born and raised in Scranton, and they settled in Honesdale. In Honesdale, Sally was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue and active in The Beth Israel Sisterhood and the Pennsylvania and national Hadassah, the international Jewish woman's organization. She also served as a substitute teacher in the Wayne Highlands School System, and for several years participated as an Honors Program teacher at Honesdale High School. As President of Lakewood Oil, and personally, Sally generously supported numerous national, regional and local charitable organizations. Sally was an avid golfer and became an honorary member of the Honesdale Golf Club after forty years. She was a lover of opera and for many years a subscriber to the Metropolitan Opera in New York City and travelled throughout the United States following various productions of Wagner's Ring Cycle. In addition to the opera, Sally was an active supporter of arts and culture locally, notably the 52nd Street Project, which links underprivileged inner city children with theater professionals to produce free theater. For years that organization ran a summer program in Wayne County. She enjoyed Sunday mornings and the New York Times Magazine's crossword puzzle, strong black coffee and making her spaghetti sauce, fried matzo and half cookies for family and friends. Sally is survived by her husband Dr. Leonard Weiss, her children Beth of New York City, Jim of Mill Valley, California and Harry of Bryn Mawr Pennsylvania, her daughters in law Cindy of Bryn Mawr and Audra of Mill Valley, her grandchildren Ethan, Sam, Julia and Emily, and her grand-pets Kona, Lucy and Little Kitty. A public service of remembrance will be observed at Temple Beth Israel, Court Street and 7th Street, Honesdale at 2:00 PM., on Friday, December 26, 2014. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sally's memory should be directed to the Jean Shair fund at Temple Beth Israel in Honesdale, or the Wayne Memorial Hospital Home Health Services and Hospice.
