Earl Wayne "Junie" "Flyer" Upright, Jr., Lake Ariel, departed from this life at the Regional Hospital of Scranton after a brief illness.
He would have celebrated his 87th birthday on February 27. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Carolyn "Lynn" Heinsohn Birmelin Upright.
Born in Varden, he was the son of the late Earl, Sr. and Mattie Brooks Upright. He graduated from the former Varden School. Prior to retirement he had been employed as a mechanic at the former Owl Chrysler Dealership as well as the Lincoln Mercury Dealership, both in Honesdale, Swingle's Garage and Ribaudo's Nursing Home in Lake Ariel, and Black Brothers Garage, Hamlin.
He was a United States Army
veteran having served in Italy during World War II
His hobbies included gardening, fishing, hunting, tinkering with engines, shuffleboard, playing cards and enjoying time with his friends in his morning coffee group and afternoon happy hours.
Also surviving are a step-daughter Debra Dexheimer and her husband James of Honesdale; step-sons Robert and his wife Jean, Fredric and his wife Sharon, and Laurence all of Lake Ariel, Jerald Birmelin and his wife Elaine of Waymart; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; sister-in-law Ellen Upright, several nieces and nephews; several great nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by sisters Helen Cobb and Florence Schaffer Clark; brothers Russell, Lyle, Steven and Edward Upright, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Cremation took place in the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home.
Friends may call to celebrate his life on Monday, January 14 from 4-7pm at the James Wilson Funeral Home, 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.
