Florence B. Black

Florence B. Black of Maplewood died Thursday morning at Regional Hospital of Scranton following an illness. Her husband of 61 years was the late Bruce J. Black who passed away in 2009.

Born in Maplewood, daughter of the late Friend A. and Charlotte Gilpin Black, she was a graduate of the Lake Consolidated School. She was retired from Katz, where she had worked as a seamstress, and in her earlier years she taught Sunday school at Calvary Baptist Church. She attended Hollisterville Baptist Church.

Surviving are sons Jerry and his wife Naomi of Lake Ariel and John of Wellsville, PA; daughters Diane Leonard of Lake Ariel and Carol Davis of Lake Peeksville, NY; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death brothers Milton, Donald, Rev. George, Garth, Clifford, and Lowell; sisters Leila McCane and Annabelle Berger Comstock.

Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Maplewood Evangelical Cemetery.

Cremation took place in the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home, Lake Ariel.
