Shirley Anne Peifer, age 74, of Greentown, died Thursday in Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. She was the wife of Donald R. Peifer, Sr., at home.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, the daughter of the late Donald and Delavinia (Freeman) Loomis, she had resided in the Greentown area for the past 60 years.
Shirley was of the Methodist faith. She was very active with the Greene Dreher Volunteer Fire Co., serving in the radio room, organizing and directing many of the benefit activities of the company, both in the fire house and at the annual picnic.
Shirley was a devoted grandmother, she enjoyed feeding the birds and wildlife at their Greentown home and loved to travel the east coast of this country.
In addition to her husband Donald Sr., she is survived by two sons-Donald R. Peifer, Jr., Conway, South Carolina and Randy E. Peifer, Lake Ariel; a son in law Robert Deschenes and wife Cheryl, NY; five grandchildren-Eric Peifer, Abby Peifer, Hannah Peifer, Mathew Deschenes and Kayden Snyder. Stepmother Juanita Loomis, Florida; stepbrother Jeff Head, Greentown.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Laura Peifer Deschenes in 2010, sisters Betty Shiffler, Dorothy Schafer, Patricia Elders and Nancy Alecka, stepsister Donna Loomis and stepbrother Wilbur Head.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Monday, Jan. 14 in the Greene Dreher Fire House, Rev. Nathan Gilpin will officiate.
Friends may gather from 5 to 6 Monday at the fire house.
