Virgil "Biddy" Bidwell, 82, a lifelong resident of Honesdale, died on Monday, March 18, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Jean M. Dickhut. The couple married on October 19, 1957 at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Born on April 30, 1930 in Honesdale, he was the son and last surviving member of the Virgil W. and Josephine Smith Bidwell family. He was a US Army
veteran serving during the Korean War
. Before retiring in 1993, Biddy worked for Delaware Valley Cement Block Co. in Port Jervis.
He was a member of the VFW
Post 531 of Honesdale, Teamsters Union Local 465, St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church and an Honorary member of Bucks Cove Rod and Gun Club.
Biddy was happiest when he was at home with his family or at his beloved hunting club hanging out with all his buddies, and especially morning "coffee" with Bob and Roger.
Also surviving is his son Randy Bidwell and wife Amy; two daughters Tammie Bea and Kathy Bidwell-Baker and husband Ron, all of the Honesdale area; five grandchildren Sarah and Cody Stanton, Kalean Bea and Paige and Megan Bidwell. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother Paul Bidwell; two infant brothers; four sisters, Betty Seeley, Alice Jennings, Josephine Hazen and Margaret Loscig.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 22nd at 11 a.m. at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Honesdale.
Interment will follow in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.
