Howard H. Raught, 85, died on Sunday, November 4, 2012 following an illness.|
Born March 5, 1927, in Blakely, PA, he was the son of the W. Carlisle and Martha (Tyson) Raught. He was married to Karen Raught on September 4, 1982.
A resident of Wayne and Pike Counties for most of his life, in 2005, he and his wife moved to Willow Valley Retirement Community, Willow Street, PA.
After serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1945-46, Howard completed his education graduating from Honesdale High School, Honesdale, PA and Eckels College of Mortuary Science in Philadelphia.
He was employed as a Funeral Director before serving in elected government positions including Wayne County Coroner and the Wayne County Prothonotary and Clerk of Courts for over 20 years.
Howard was a past president of the Pennsylvania State Prothonotary and Clerk of Courts Association and for many years was a member of SPEBQSA, a barber shop singing organization. In his earlier years, he was active in many civic organizations.
In addition to his wife of 30 years, he will be lovingly missed by his children, Jeffrey Raught, husband of Cindy, of Talmage, PA and Debra, wife of Gerald Fulmer, of Bethany, PA; three grandsons, Alan Raught, Edward Raught, Todd Fulmer; a great granddaughter, Madeline Fulmer; a sister, Alice Fleming, of Brick, NJ; his former wife, Marie Raught, of Honesdale, PA as well as many nieces and nephews who lovingly remember Uncle Buddy's great sense of humor. He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Herbert Raught and a sister, Evelyn McDonough.
A Memorial Service will be held at Willow Valley at a later date.
Memorial Remembrances can be made in Howard's memory to Hospice and Community Care, Lancaster, PA, Ascension Lutheran Church, Willow Street or St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Hawley, PA.
