Michael Raymond Keough, 73 of Honesdale, died early Tuesday afternoon, November 20, 2012 at Scranton Regional Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Agnes St. John. The couple married on September 19, 1964.|
Michael was born on November 15, 1939 in The Bronx, NY, the only son of Thomas Keough, originally from Plate Cove, Newfoundland and Julia Keough (nee King) originally from County Kerry, Ireland.
Michael spent his high school years as a novitiate at the Irish Christian Brothers seminary in Upstate New York. He later graduated from Fordham University, and served in the United States Marine Corps.
He and his wife, Agnes, moved to Staten Island, NY in 1972 and supervised a Group Home for Catholic Charities of Archdiocese New York for almost four years.
He continued his residence for more than three decades in Dongan Hills, Staten Island, where he and his wife raised their family as members of St. Ann's Parish.
He founded and operated Maritime Personnel Consultancy and Executive Search business for many years, before retiring to Honesdale, PA in 2005.
Michael was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale, where he served as a lector and will be remembered fondly for his booming delivery of scripture.
A member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 50 years, he held the title of Sir Knight as a recipient of the Order's Fourth Degree. He was active with the Honesdale Council # 363.
He is remembered by friends for his veracious love of reading and history; his often astonishing memory and colorful stories; his devotion to his family and to his faith; and for the great and evident joy he found in the presence of his grandchildren.
Also surviving are his four children and their spouses; daughter Ellen-Mary O'Brien and husband Dennis, son Thomas Keough and wife Carol, daughter Dorothy Harvey and husband John, and son Matthew Keough and wife Carrie; as well as twelve grandchildren Dorothy, Dennis, Emily, Abaigael and Gwendolyn O'Brien, Cyril and Charles Harvey, Molly and Margaret Keough, Agnes, Saoirse and Roisin Keough.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Honesdale. Interment will be Monday at The Cemetery of the Resurrection, Staten Island, NY at 1 p.m.
