Richard James Costello, age 76, of Hawley died Sunday, October 13, 2013, at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He is survived by his wife, the former Judith Beja.|
Born March 31, 1937, in Westfield, NJ, Richard was the son of the late James and Giovanna (Siragusa) Costello. He served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He had been a resident of Branchburg, NJ, prior to moving to the Hawley area 40 years ago. He and his wife were residents of Fawn Lake Forest and later of Hawley.
Until his retirement, he worked as a PSA at Farview State Prison. Following his retirement, he operated the Pro Shop at Cricket Hill Golf Course. Mr. Costello was an avid golfer and dearly loved his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children: Mark and his partner Dan Shaffer of Langhorne, PA, Laura Wormuth of Hawley, and Perry and his wife Janice of Hellertown, PA; three grandchildren: Amanda Wormuth and Vincent and Annika Costello; two sisters: Rose Verzillo of Westfield, NJ, and Nancy Trumble of Chula Vista, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, October 19, from 12 Noon to 1 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley. Interment will be a BVM Queen of Peace Cemetery immediately following the gathering. Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.
