Thomas J. Gibbs, Sr. of Lake Ariel died Thursday evening at home surrounded by family and friends following an illness. His wife of 50 years is the former Carol Watkins.|
He was born in Scranton, son of the late Frank and Margaret Ferguson Gibbs and his step-mother Margaret Jones Gibbs. Prior to retirement he had been employed by Erie/Lackawanna and ConRail as a signalman. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
He was always "all in" on Friday nights at the shed for his Texas Hold 'Em card games. He was also an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed going to Pocono Raceway.
Also surviving are a daughter, Christine Kromko and her husband, Robert of Waymart; a son, Eric and his wife, Amy of Jefferson Twp.; a sister, Jean Kochmanski of Michigan; step-sisters, Georgetta Patchoski and Kathy Cuillo both of Scranton; grandchildren Scott, Courtney, Shawn, Matthew, Corey, and Kaitlyn; several nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Belle.
He was preceded in death by a son Thomas Jr.; brothers Robert, Frank, and Joseph; sister Margaret Churnock; a step sister Georgina Davis.
Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. the James Wilson Funeral Home143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.
Friends may call Sunday from 1 -5 p.m.
Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
