Doris M. Guinther, 89 of Honesdale, died on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Edward S. Guinther. The couple married on May 11, 1940.|
Born on April 5, 1923 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Josephine Harding Johnson.
She was employed at Katz Underwear Factory for 30 years until her retirement where she was an examiner. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Parish and its Altar and Rosary Society and a former member of Texas #4 Ladies Auxiliary.
Doris enjoyed trips to the casino. She was also well known for her green thumb and loved her flowers. She was a seamstress, knitter, canned food and all other housewife duties of her day, all for her family.
Also surviving is her daughter Mary Ann Glisson and husband George of Glenmore, PA; her sons Daniel Sr. and wife Patricia of Honesdale, Robert and wife Betty of Dalzell, SC, Michael and wife Debbie of Spotsylvania, VA and John and wife Vicky of Chula Vista, CA; a brother Harry Johnson of Stroudsburg; 13 grandchildren Jill Goodman, Daniel Guinther Jr., Kathleen, Todd, and Tracy Glisson, Stephanie Grippe, Barbara Snipes, Michelle Cutlip, Tammy Richardson, Destiny French, Romeo Ayonar, Christopher Guinther, and Anna Lisa Ochoa; 20 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Mary Sue Scholfield and her sister Louise Gressell.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church. Interment will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may visit at Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Monday from 4 to 7.
