Florian Juran, 90, a resident of Bethany Village, died on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Hospice Community Care in Dunmore.|
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Veronika Ablasser, on January 16, 1999.
The couple married on August 12, 1950 in Austria.
Born on May 3, 1922 in Gottschee, Yugoslavia, he was the son of the late Andreas and Maria Juran.
He and his wife immigrated to the United States in 1952.
He became a machinist working for several companies in the New York City area. They raised their family in Ridgewood and Glenwood, NY before moving to Hawley in 1977.
Florian was a member of the former St. Joseph's Church in White Mills and assisted in the renovations of St. Bernard's Church in Beach Lake.
He was a current member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale. He was also a member of the Lake Wallenpaupack German American Club.
He enjoyed chess, gardening, skiiing, feeding the birds and woodworking.
Surviving is his son Erwin "Gersh" Juran of Hawley; his daughter Belinda Juran and son-in-law Evan Schapiro of Lowell, MA; a sister Anna Fortescue of Glendale, NY; and his granddaughter Kaity Juran.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 8th at St. Bernard's Church, Beach Lake at 10 am.
Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Honesdale.
Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc. 428 Main St. Honesdale on Monday from 4 to 7.
