Frederick Paul Schuman, Sr., 79, of Honesdale, died on Monday, May 6, 2013 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Catherine Novobilski. The couple married on July 4, 1959.|
Born on October 5, 1933 at the family home in Lookout, he was the son of the late John D. and Edna Toms Schuman. He was a graduate of Damascus High School and later worked on the family farm. In 1956 he was drafted into the US Army and served in Korea following the Korean War.
Following his honorable discharge, he returned to the family farm before working for Wayne Feeds in Honesdale.
He retired from Agway in Honesdale. Fred enjoyed farming and was well know for his gardens.
Fred was a member of Queen of Peace Parish in Hawley.
Also surviving are his sons Fred Jr. and wife Vicki, Daniel and companion Beth Vail, Robert and wife Roberta and Michael and companion Jessica Fenton all of Hawley; daughters Dolores Rasbach and husband Ed of West Chester, PA and Patricia Fleming of San Diego, CA; brothers Earl and wife Helen of Equinunk and Orvis and Ruth of Lookout; sisters Myrtle Apple and husband Melvin and Kathryn Schuman all of Honesdale; grandchildren Amanda, Brian and Sarah Rasbach, Kyndra and Joshua Schuman, Kaitlyn Fleming and Timothy Schuman; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his half brother Everett Schuman.
