Jane L. Smith, age 93, of Hawley died Monday, January 28, 2013 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Honesdale.|
Mrs. Smith was born November 20, 1919 at Wangum Falls, Hawley, PA and was the daughter of the late Eugene and Harriet (Ermisch) Kuhn.
Jane graduated from Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia as a registered nurse, 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during WWI.
She was stationed in Bornemouth, England. After her discharge from the Army she worked at Hahnemann Hospital for nine years as head nurse of maternity and obstetrics. She returned to Wayne County and worked at Wayne Memorial Hospital in the original Dimmick Building, where she met her husband, Joseph. They would have been married 62 years on May 10, 2013.
Jane was a devoted wife to her beloved Joe and a loving mother to her children and all of her grandchildren.
She was known for all of her beautiful crafts she worked on most days. Sewing wedding gowns for her daughters and knitting sweaters for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband: Joseph Smith; two daughters: Wendy & her husband, Kevin Knorr, Karen L. Martin & her companion, Jerry McDonald; six grandchildren, Julie Pierson, Sarah Schlaglin, Corp. Farrington F. Martin, III, Talli Knorr, Benjamin Martin, Nathaniel Martin and several great grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, January 30th from 5 to 7 PM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley, PA. The funeral will be Thursday, January 31st at 11 AM at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St, Hawley with Rev. Anna Layman Knox, pastor Hawley United Methodist Church, officiating.
Cremation will be at Lake Region Crematory.
