John E. Henderson, 60 of Honesdale, died on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at his home in Damascus Township following an illness. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, the former Connie M. Stine. |
The couple married on May 20, 1995 at the Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale.
Born on January 1, 1953 in Honesdale, he was the son of the late Norman R. and Dorothy I. Stanton Henderson. A graduate of Honesdale High School, John was a member of the schools first wrestling team.
A great athlete, John was also noted as one of the best little league pitchers playing for the VFW Tigers.
An avid sports fan, he especially followed the Lions, Tigers and Bears.
Before taking ill, John was employed for 33 years by the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railroad where he was a foreman.
John was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, the BMWE Union and the Central United Methodist Church.
John enjoyed drinking beer and playing golf and will be missed by all who knew him.
Also surviving is his son Jonathon Henderson and wife Carol of Mays Landing, NJ; his daughters Jill Marie Henderson at home and Nicole Nordenhold and husband Mark of Hawley; brothers Thomas Holbert and wife Jackie of Rockledge, FL and Richard Henderson and wife Marilyn of Honesdale; sisters Jade Swartwood and husband Darryl of Bloomsburg and Jill Reyman and husband Richard of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren Kori Lee, Connor, Chloe, Gavin, MacKenzie and Lyra Rose; several nieces and nephews; and his dog Stella.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Judith Holbert and Brenda McCloskey and his brother Burton Holbert.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 21st at 11 am at the Central United Methodist Church in Honesdale.
Interment will follow in East Dyberry Cemetery. Friends may visit Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale on Wednesday from 4 to 8.
