John Sverduk, beloved husband, devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed peacefully away on October 6, 2012 in Goodyear, Arizona at the age of 88. Born in Lake Ariel, PA on November 25, 1923, he was the son of the late Paul and Efrosia Marchuk Sverduk.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Enslin Sverduk, in 2010. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Peter and Andrew, and two sisters, Martha and Mary.
He is survived by his five children, twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. John graduated from Lake Ariel Consolidated High School in 1942.
He worked as a carpenter and an auto mechanic, but found his true calling late in life cuddling foster babies taken from drug-addicted mothers.
He lived most of his adult life in Toms River, NJ and attended the Laurelton Park Baptist Church in Brick Town, NJ.
As mentioned above, he is survived by three sons, David, Robert, and Tim Sverduk; two daughters, Sue Brunk, and Kitty Fernandez; twelve grandchildren, Ginger Hemmler, Lee Sverduk, Tupper Sverduk, Vicki Sverduk, Aaron Sverduk, Ben Sverduk, Allison Wilmarth, Nate Brunk, Katie Brown, Madi Brunk, Sammi Fernandez, and John Fernandez; and seven great grandchildren, Carainda Sverduk, Paige Hemmler, H. Olivia Wilmarth, Aaron Sverduk, Jr., Matthew Hemmler, Jr., Rowan Brunk, and Tupper Sverduk.
He will be sorely missed by all of us, but most of all by his beloved foster great-grandchild Cindy Loo.
A private service will be held when his ashes are scattered to join those of his wife in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to WPEL Radio Station in Montrose, PA 18801.
John and his wife Dorothy enjoyed many hours listening to this station.
