Lt. John T. Allardyce, United States Navy Retired, Lake Ariel, died early Saturday morning in the Commonwealth Hospice at the Regional Hospital of Scranton after an illness. His wife of 45 years is the former Jane Wescoe.|
Born in Newark, NJ he was the son of the late Thomas and Margaret O'Malley Allardyce. He was a member of the St Thomas More – St Mary's Parish Community, Lake Ariel.
Prior to retirement he had served in the United States Navy for 29 years. During his service he earned a Bronze Stars with a "'V" for Valor for saving the lives of several crew members when his ship the USS Higbee was bombed off the coast of North Vietnam in the Gulf of Tonkin.
He was a Past Commander and member of the Paul A. Sweeney American Legion Post 807, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Disabled American Veterans as well as the Fleet Reserve Association.
Also surviving are daughters Kristen Sweeney and son in law John Schwartz of Hawley and Sonja Allardyce of Lake Ariel; a son Michael and his wife Darla of Camp Hill; a step son Keith Brislin of Honesdale; a sister Sonja Jacobs of Florida; a brother Michael of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, John, Sean, Ryan, Audrey and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son in law Staff Sgt. Paul A Sweeney who died in Afghanistan on October 30, 2003 while serving with the Special Forces Airborne Division.
All who plan on attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St Thomas More Church 105 Gravity Rd.
Military services will be conducted by members of the Paul A Sweeney American Legion Post 807.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. in the James Wilson Funeral Home 143 Gravity Rd. Lake Ariel.
Cremation will follow the Mass in the Lake Region Crematory at the James Wilson Funeral Home.
Interment of Ashes will take place at a later date in St Mary's Cemetery, Ledgedale.
