Lou Carol Stewart, 86, a resident of the Forest City Nursing Home and Rehab Center passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2013.|
Born on September 29, 1926 in Asheville, NC, she was the daughter of the late Edward E. Stewart and Dora Woodward Burleigh Stewart.The family lived on Sunrise Ave. in Honesdale where Lou Carol lived most her life.
In her early life she was very adventurous and attained her pilots license, flying light aircraft out of the airport where the present day Route 6 Plaza exists.
Lou Carol was a woman of deep faith and kindness, always taking time to visit friends and church members when they were in the hospital or nursing homes. She loved music and was often the center of attention when she played the piano at the Forest City facility, entertaining the other residents with their old time favorites.
Because of her likeability, she was once named the resident of the month at the nursing home.
All who knew her would agree that she was a very unique and special person that would be greatly missed. Her family would to thank the staff of Forest City Nursing Home for their kind care during Lou Carol's stay.
She was preceded in death by her brother Franklin W. Burleigh and is survived by a niece Norene Wheeler of Santa Barbara, CA and three nephews, Richard, Kevin, and Scott Burleigh, all of Pleasant Mount and several cousins.
Cremation services were handled by Hessling Funeral Home, Inc., 428 Main St. Honesdale.
A memorial service will be held at the Assembly of God Church, 1112 Church St. Honesdale, PA on Tuesday, March 19th at 7pm.
The family will receive friends from 6 to service time.
