Maria Jaklitsch, age 93, of Hawley died Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Louis, in 2000. |
Formerly of Ridgewood, Queens, NY, she had been a Hawley resident for 40 years.
Born June 10, 1919, in the Gottschee region of Slovenia, she was the daughter of the late Andreas and Paula (Jaklitsch) Pogorelz. A retired knitter, she was a member of BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, Hawley. She was a loving mother who was deeply loved by her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by one daughter: Gerda Elizabeth Palmenteri of Hawley; one son: Herbert Jaklitsch of Middle Village, NY; one brother: Alois Pogorelz of Middle Village, NY; four grandchildren: Michael, Lisa, Jerome And Stefanie; six great grandchildren: Thomas, Erik, Emma, Alya, Olivia and Luciano; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, January 29, at 10 a.m. at BVM Queen Of Peace Roman Catholic Church, 314 Chestnut Ave, Hawley, with Rev. Richard W. Beck, Pastor, officiating. Private cremation was held at Lake Region Crematory, Lake Ariel.
