Rita L. Garrah Obituary
On Wednesday, September 17, 2014, Rita L. Garrah passed into the arms of the Lord at Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale, following a long illness at the age of 92 years.

She was the daughter of the late Nicholas Gallondorm and Catherine Hoffman Riefler.

She was also preceded in death by her sister Marie Gallondorm and brother Earl R. Riefler.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, John P. Garrah; her sister-in-law Shirley Garrah and her children Paul (Beverly),
Michael and daughters, Mark (Lucy) Garrah and nieces: Maureen (Steve) Parreco and sons and Erin (William) Mallori and daughters; dear friends: Sue LaBruno, Margaret Glinsky, Frank Glinsky, and Eric Grossman, Leah (Steve) Anderson and Lynn (Dan) Goodwin and son; cousins: Mrs. James Mullen and family.

Born in Scranton, PA on April 17, 1922, Rita was raised in Honesdale from age 10 months on Riverside Drive and Ridge St. until her marriage to John.

She was an icon on Main St. having initially worked for Scureman's Pharmacy and then Glinsky's Pharmacy for over 50 years, all on the 1100 block.

A lifelong member of St. John the Evangelist and St. Mary Magdalen Parish, she was a graduate of Honesdale Catholic High School.

She was a member of the Parish Altar and Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She was an active participant in the Parish Eucharistic Adoration from its inception for over 20 years.

Rita was an active member of the Democratic Party and an original member of the PA Young Democrats.

She served in District #2 as an Election Official and was cited for her 50 plus years continuous voting record.

She and her husband, John, traveled extensively, including several trips to Canada and Europe, and most recently to Mexico in April.

Both Rita and John were active in the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) for the last 25 years.

Both served as local and county officers and state and national convention delegates. In 2012, Rita was honored with a life membership by the Ladies AOH National Board, an honor limited to only 4 ladies bi-annually.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 22nd at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Honesdale at 10am. The family
will receive friends, 9 to 10 in church.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at the convenience of her family.
