Obituary Condolences

Gary Paul Rickard died unexpectedly Tuesday morning, November 9, 2010. Born in Honesdale, Pa on August 16, 1941, he was the son of the late Chester Rickard and Marion Schiessler. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Rickard graduated from Honesdale Catholic High School in 1959 and graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1963.
He was elected to the Board of Directors of NEBA in 1967 and also elected to the Board of Directors of Sire Power, Inc. in 1979. While serving on the board of Sire Power, Mr. Rickard was elected president of the board in 1979. In 1978 he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Wayne County Bank and Trust (now Wayne Bank), where he proudly served until his death.
Since 1963, Mr. Rickard worked on the family farm, Clearfield Farms, where he was in partnership with his brother, Chester Rickard. Together they managed a dairy herd of over 200 animals. Gary was a hard-working, respected business man and well-known member of our community. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife, Patricia Kennedy and her daughter Blair of Honesdale, his former wife Susan Basile Rickard and his children: Scott Charles Rickard of Honesdale, Cristy Ann DiDonato and husband Harry of Malvern, Pa., and Craig Edward Rickard and wife Kim of Honesdale, siblings: Sandra Newell of Honesdale, Chester Rickard and wife Cindy of Honesdale, and sister-in-law Maureen Rickard of Honesdale, eight grandchildren: Taylor, Abigail, Mitchel, Colin and Ethan Rickard all of Honesdale and Matthew, Katherine and Erin DiDonato all of Malvern, Pa. and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death on December 3, 2005 by his brother Edward Rickard.
As per his request, cremation was held at Maple Hill at Salem Crematory. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday (today) from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at Hessling Funeral Home, 428 Main St. Honesdale.
