Ann Marie Dunne Bursis, Honesdale, passed away at her home on Wednesday, February 6, 2013, following an illness.|
Born in Carbondale on October 8, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Isabelle Canivan Dunne and Thomas F. Dunne.
She retired in 1992 as a Pennsylvania Internal Revenue Agent. She was a life-long member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church. Her faith was a personal and special part of her life to the very end. Community and people were very important to her. In the the 1970's she was part in heading up the 'Hornets Hive' on Main Street to have a place for the youth to go, and served on many civic committees throughout the years.
Those who knew Ann know that politics was part of her every day life. Following in the footsteps of her mother, Isabelle, she was active in the Democratic party from a very young age. She worked tirelessly for many candidates on the local, state and national levels. She politically served in many capacities. Some include: PA Young Democrats, PA Democratic State Committee, Wayne
County Democratic Chair, current Treasurer PA Democratic State Committee, Gov. Edward Rendell's Transition Team, and many local and state campaigns. She attended every Democratic National Convention, in various roles, from 1964 (with the exception of 1968) to 2012. She was proud to have attended this last convention in September 2012 with her oldest grandson, Emerson. She gained trust and friendship from many, on both local and state levels, for her fairness and her belief in politics being a segway for the betterment of the people and community as a whole.
Her family was the main part of her world. She was in contact with everyone on a regular basis. She also loved, treasured and treated her friends as her family. Ann was always available as a listening ear if someone just needed to talk, or asked for advice.
Her heart was always in the right place and did all she could to help people. She was known to 'hold court' at the Towne House Diner on a daily basis where many of them met to talk over daily events.
