Daniel Steven Wanko Sr., 64, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 1, 2012 after a long battle with cancer. He was at home and surrounded by his family. Dan was a loving husband for 43 years to his wife, Barbara Harwood Wanko. Dan was dedicated and proud of his four children, Michele Broome, of Baton Rouge, and her husband Craig; Daniel Steven Wanko Jr. of Raceland, and wife Nicole; Chris Wanko of New Orleans, and wife Debbie and Mary Clement of New Orleans, and husband Chris. He was a loving "Pop Pop" to his 10 grandchildren: Blake Broome, Connor Broome, Hannah Broome, Kate Broome, Trey Wanko, Beau Wanko, Brock Wanko, Cecilia Wanko, Ellie Grace Clement and Molly Clement. Dan is survived by his mother Olga Wanko, of Mandeville, and brother, Greg Wanko and sister-in-law, Debbie Wanko, of Mandeville. He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel M. Wanko and his brother, Dennis Wanko. Dan has touched the lives of many that he worked with over the years. He most recently worked as Vice President Financial Advisor at Morgan Keegan. He was a loving friend and will be dearly missed. He holds a special place in the hearts of many. He was a true confidant, and his sense of humor will always be remembered. He loved golf and music-he loved to sing and play guitar. He has been very active in his community and in his Church parishes. He has served as a Eucharistic Minister and member of the Church choir at St. Jerome and St. Elizabeth in Kenner, he was very involved with Handicapped Encounter Christ retreats for many years, was a member of the Gonzales Rotary Club, Leadership Ascension, St. Anthony Parish Council, and Pelican Point Homeowners Association Board. A dedicated parishioner at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. The family would like to extend our gratitude to all of his medical team including those at Mary Bird Perkins, Our Lady of the Lake, St. Elizabeth Hospital, St. Joseph's Hospice and Dr. Stagg and all of his staff. Also a special thank you to Sister Dulce at Cypress Springs Mercedarian Prayer Center. She has provided spiritual grace and physical comfort for him and his family. She has been a true comfort on this long journey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to her foundation to support the great work that she does at www. Cypressspringsprayercenter.org. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation and Mass that will be held on Friday, Dec. 7, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 37311 Hwy. 22, Darrow.
