Kerney T. Sheets, a longtime resident of Duplessis, passed away Sunday, July 14, 2013 at his home at the age of 85. He was a retired businessman, historian, Navy veteran, inventor and master craftsman of Louisiana Tidewater Red Cypress, his lifelong passion. Survived by his wife of 65 years, Alice S. Sheets; three children, Terrell Sheets, Monica Sheets Lavigne and husband Perry and Mary Beth Sheets Laiche and husband Donald; 7 grandchildren, Amy Lavigne, Jamie Laiche, Shelli Sims, Kacie Laiche, Ryan Lavigne, Jacob Sheets and Kelli Jean; 8 great-grandchildren; a sister Joy Soileau and a brother Roland Sheets. He is preceded in death by his parents Jacob and Ada Little Sheets and 9 brothers and sisters. Visitation was held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 15208 Hwy. 73, Prairieville Wednesday, July 17 from 10 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. celebrated by Rev. Eric Gyan. Entombment followed in St. John Cemetery Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Jamie Laiche, Ryan Lavigne, Jacob Sheets, Damon Sims, Jared Laiche, and Adam Jean. Honorary pallbearer will be Eddie Hymel. The family would like to give special thanks to Amedisys Hospice and his caregivers Sharon, Vera and Joi for their compassionate care.
