A native of Lake and resident of Gonzales, he passed away Jan. 27, 2012, at the age of 94. He was born Nov. 5, 1917 to parents, Ethel Marie Yard and Leonce Mayers. He married Annie Mary Lanoux in January 1939. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the Army in Central Europe, receiving seven medals. He retired from Exxon after 33 years of service as a Master Mechanic. He was a life member of American Legion Post 81, and VFW Post 3693, and a member of Bayou Country Exxon Club. He is survived by his children, Annie-Laura, Nell, and Lloyd "Sonny" Mayers and wife, Eunice; sisters, Lillian Pendarvis, Laura Roussell, Lenora "Kitty" Russell; brothers, Lionel "Bully" and Luther "PeeWee" Mayers; eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson. Preceded in death by his parents; wife; granddaughter, Sheila Bryson; and a brother, Linden "Crop" Mayers. There was a visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, Jan. 29, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Visitation resumed at the funeral home, Jan. 30, from 9 a.m. until religious services at 10:30 a.m. officiated by Deacon Sammartino.
