Billy Joe Ratcliff, 80, of Urbana, died on Saturday, July 26, 2014, in the Springfield Regional Medical Center, Springfield.

He was born on May 1, 1934, in Carter County, KY, the son of Lloyd Thomas and Goldie Opal (Pennington) Ratcliff.

Billy Joe retired from Knowlton Construction. He attended the New Beginning Fellowship Church and was a member of the Harmony Lodge # 8 F. & A.M., Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Antioch Temple and the Champaign County Shrine Club.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marcella June (Ropp) Ratcliff; daughter, Cathy Lynn Ratcliff of Springfield; son, Terry Joe Ratcliff Sr. and wife Tammy of Urbana; grandchildren, Michelle Nicole Runkle of Urbana and Heather Nicole Behlmer and husband Casey of Urbana; great-grandchildren, Dominic Kaminski, Blake Kaminski, Nicholas McLean, Jr., Eli Ullery, Elli Ullery , Logan Behlmer; sisters, Linda Sue Tackett and husband Lloyd Allen of Grayson, KY, Jane Petty and husband Lester of Urbana; brother Richard Eugene Ratcliff of Urbana; brother-in-law Paul Sloan of Grayson, KY; good friend Scott Shaffner of Urbana; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Crystal Kay Ratcliff; grandson, Terry Joe Ratcliff Jr.; sister, Helen Sloan; brothers, Donald Harry Ratcliff and Ernest Thomas Ratcliff.

The family will receive friends from noon to 2:00 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, in the WALTER & SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, where a service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014, with Pastor Bob Knox officiating. Burial will follow in Kings Creek Cemetery, Urbana.

A gathering of family and friends will follow the burial at 4929 Game Farm Road, Urbana.

The family asks that contributions be made to the funeral home to assist in the funeral expenses.
