Carre Richard "Dick" Carter

BELLEFONTAINE – Carre Richard "Dick" Carter, 82, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio.

He was born on August 27, 1932 in Bellefontaine to the late Samuel A. and Florence Lucille (Brooks) Carter. Also preceding him in death are his sisters, Betty Eileen Slaughter, Jeanne Elaine Hurst and twin sisters; and a son-in-law, Patrick Shawn Winters.

On April 28, 1956 he married the former Patricia Ann Tuffnell in Romford-Essex County, England and she survives along with their children, Kerri (Barney) Sullivan of Bremen, GA, Stacey (Jack) Stahler of Bellefontaine, Jennifer (Gregg) DeMent of Bellefontaine, Gary (Sheri) Carter of Omaha, NE, Mark (Patty) Carter of Bellefontaine and Shaun Carter of Key West, FL; 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a brother, Ralph (Sandra) Carter of Clarksville, TN; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, Dick worked at DAB and retired in 1997. He was a former member of the V.F.W. #1080, American Legion #173 and the Eagles #2166. An avid OSU fan, Dick was proud to attend the 2002 National Championship game with his son, Gary. He enjoyed traveling with his children every summer especially to Myrtle Beach, which was his favorite place to go. He also enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports and he was and still is an avid supporter of Bellefontaine athletics. He also enjoyed gardening and fruit trees.

Grandson, Pastor Donald "Andy" Carter, will officiate at a 10:30 a.m. service on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the EICHHOLTZ FUNERAL HOMEin Bellefontaine where friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2014. Burial will be in the Highland Memorial Cemetery with military rites by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.
