URBANA - Catherine Elizabeth Lingrell, 83, died May 25, 2016 in Mercy Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born in Urbana, Ohio, July 8, 1932, the daughter of Charles and Jovita Palomina Luna Young. She graduated from St. Mary High School and was a life-long member of St. Mary Church. On August 16, 1952 she married the only man for her, Bill, and together shared 49 years of marriage, until his death September 25, 2001. She was known for decorating her porch on every holiday, especially Christmas. She loved her garden, but mostly enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker.

She is survived by her five children and spouses, Milissa and Gary Oakes of Fairborn, Ohio, Noel and Tom Tullis of W. Liberty, Ohio, Kristen and David Alspaugh of Covington, Ohio, Matthew and Krista Lingrell and Andrew and Gina Lingrell, of Urbana, Ohio, twelve grandchildren – Josh (Christy) Astorino, Mary Catherine Long, Zachary Oakes, Troy Tullis, Brooke (Matt) Tullis Wellbaum, Blythe Alspaugh, Marcus, Seth and Sara Lingrell, Sophia, Haydon and Holdon Lingrell, four great grandchildren – Kaydance and Rylan Dorston, and, Ava and Griffin Astorino. She is also survived by sisters-in law Rosa Lingrell Giampetro and husband Frank, Vicki Lingrell, brother-in-law Richard Bayes and many nieces and nephews. She is thankful to close friends Mary Dwyer and Libby Zettler, and the many other friends who preceded her in death, for their lifelong friendships.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Bill, one brother, Aurelio Luna, one sister, Maggie Lohnes and a great-grandson, Braydon Dorston.

Her family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff from Urbana Mercy Memorial Hospital and Springfield Regional Medical Center, who gave great loving care and comfort to our mother during her final days with us.

As Lingrell children, our mother was an angel sent to us from God. She lived her life making sure our lives were worthy, wise and dedicated, most importantly to being meek, humble and kind to anyone we meet throughout life. Mom spent a good portion of her daily life praying for us and for others, using her rosary multiple times a day, including during her last moments with us. In Scripture, Apostle Matthew writes in 22:36-39: "Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself."

Mom did just that and her reward for this wonderful life is that she is now in the presence of God, along with many other loved ones, awaiting the day we all will be together again.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 30, 2016 at VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016 in St. Mary Church, with Father Larry Gearhart celebrant. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery.
