MECHANICSBURG - Earl Edward Luckett, Jr., 84, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on September 26, 2016, surrounded by his family at the Mercy McAuley Center in Urbana, Ohio.
Born in Mechanicsburg on November 9, 1931, the son of the late Earl Edward Sr. and Helen (Vanskiver) Luckett, "Jr." was a lifelong farmer and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. After graduating from Mechanicsburg High School in 1949, Earl worked for George Anderson Plumbing in Mechanicsburg for thirty years and the Hall Company in Urbana, where he retired after twenty years. His overriding purpose though was farming the land that his family has farmed continuously for seven generations – since 1836.
In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his sister Ola Luckett, brother-in-law George Anderson, and nephew Mark Anderson.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dorothy Margaret (Welter) Luckett; sister, Doris Anderson of Mechanicsburg; his children, Kathy (Russ) Alty and Earl Michael (Debbi) Luckett, both of Mechanicsburg. He was a loving grandfather to Sean (Hidy) Alty of Mechanicsburg, Ryan Alty of Mechanicsburg, and Ross Goldsmith (Lea Barker) of Columbus; as well as a doting great-grandfather to Haley and Hannah Alty. Earl also leaves behind many nieces and nephews
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, September 29, 2016 in the SKILLMAN, McDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Mechanicsburg with Reverend Mimi Ault officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to the service from 10 a.m. to noon. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorial contributions be made in his name to the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church, 42 N. Main St., Mechanicsburg, Ohio 43044.
