Frank Gressner

LAKEVIEW – Frank E. "Ed" Gressner, 86, of Lewistown, OH, passed away Wednesday morning, October 29, 2014 at his home.

Ed was born on March 23, 1928 in Dayton, OH to the late Lawrence & Frances Weaver Gressner. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn Aiello, two sisters, Dorothy Walker and Norma Bray, and three brothers, Ellsworth, Roy, and Bill.

On June 25, 1971, he married the former Wanda Craft in Belle Center, OH and she survives along with six children, Steven (Teresa) Gressner of Russells Point, OH, Rosemary Flippen of Ontario, CA, James (Cindy) Gressner of Whittier, CA, Rick (Carissa) Gressner of Bellefontaine, OH, Adina (Randall) Purtee of DeGraff, OH, and Michael Gressner of Reynoldsburg, OH, 12 grandchildren, Jason Reed, Jay Gressner, Michael Flippen, Curtis Gressner, Kyle Gressner, Tyler Gressner, Amanda Gressner, Kelsea Purtee, Joshua Purtee, Alissa Gressner, Marissa Gressner, and Sydney Gressner, a step-granddaughter, Jessica Boop, and two step-great grandchildren, Jacob and Lance Houchin, one brother, Harold (Marlene) Gressner of Lakeview, OH, special friends, Donna Wasserbeck, Linda Krueger, Jim Back, and Hugh Wintersteller, and several nieces and nephews.

Ed attended Washington Local Schools prior to joining the Army Air Corps during World War II, where he served with the 20th Fighting Wing in Guam. He retired as Park Manager at Delaware State Park after 32 years with Ohio Department of Natural Resources. He was a Charter and Life member of Indian Lake Fish & Game Club. An avid fisherman, hunter and trapper, Ed was known as the "Legend" due to his knowledge and fishing expertise of Indian Lake and Delaware State Park. He also enjoyed woodworking, and loved spending time with his grandchildren, whom he enthusiastically taught fishing, hunting, and woodworking skills.

Reverend Timothy J. Peria will begin funeral services at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 3, 2014 at Shoffstall Funeral Home, Lakeview. Visitation is Sunday, November 2nd from 2-5 pm at the funeral home. Burial is in Huntsville Cemetery with military honors provided by the Logan County Veterans Honor Guard.

Contributions may be given in his name to The Indian Lake Fish and Game Club, as well as Universal Home Health & Hospice Care.
