Linda Leiter

BELLE CENTER - Linda Kay Leiter, 78, of Belle Center, OH, passed away early Saturday morning, February 27, 2016 at her home.

Linda was born on September 7, 1937 in Taylor Creek Twp, Hardin Co., Ohio to the late Milburn and Margaret Williams Phillips. She lived on her family farm until she married Dave Leiter on December 30, 1956 at her parent's home and he survives. She was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Kerns and a brother, Richard "Bud" Phillips.

She is also survived by five children, Cindy (Bob) Richter and Cheryl Forsythe, both of Lakeview, OH, Allen (Deb) Leiter and Jeff (Dina) Leiter, both of Belle Center, and Bob (Carol Nicol) Leiter of Russells Point, OH, 15 grandchildren, Carl (Moriah) Richter, D'Anne (Lauren Martel) Braun, Jason Richter, Bret (Raina) Brown, Brenda (Brian Holder) Moots, Amy (Ward Cartwright) Brown, Mollie (Preston) Rogan, Michael Leiter, Kyle Leiter, Carly Leiter, Cory Leiter, Lindsee (Justin Adams) Leiter, Ryan Ridge, Colin Ridge, and Dylan Ridge, and eight great grandchildren.

Linda was a 1955 graduate of Belle Center High School. She nursed her mother from her sophomore year in high school until her mother's death eight months after Linda was married. Linda was a stay at home mother and homemaker. She was an active member of Belle Center United Methodist Church and other women's groups. Some of which included North Fork Sew and So Club and King's Daughters. She was also a Cub Scout den mother and Girl Scout troop leader. She was a member of REACT, and very active as a CB dispatcher during the 1978 blizzard. Linda was famous for her baking. She had rare 8 sided pie pans she used. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren will remember her best for the dozens of heart shaped sugar cookies with pink icing she made every Valentine's Day. Each Christmas, she would make batches of hard tack, buckeyes, fudge, cookies and divinity for gifts. Her vegetable soup and chicken & noodles were a favorite at church dinners.

Pastor Kevin Smith will begin funeral services at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Belle Center United Methodist Church, 202 E. Main St., Belle Center. Visitation is Wednesday, March 2nd from 2-8 pm, at Shoffstall Funeral Home, 205 S. Main St, Lakeview and Thursday, one hour prior to services at the church. Burial is in Fairview Cemetery, Belle Center.

Memorial contribution may be given in her name to Universal Home Health and Hospice Care or Logan County Cancer Society.
