U. Claire MacDonald

RUSSELLS POINT – U. Claire MacDonald, 92, of Russells Point, OH, passed away early Monday morning, February 23, 2015 at Logan Acres Care Center, Bellefontaine, OH.

Claire was born on March 5, 1922 in Rochester, OH to the late Earl & Lenora Turner Bennington. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Patricia Newell and Jean Scales.

On February 25, 1947, she married Robert B. MacDonald in Sidney, OH and he survives along with two children, Robert B. (Diana) MacDonald, Jr. of Bellefontaine, and Christina MacDonald of Columbus, OH, two grandchildren, Jennifer A. (Brent) Ogle and Jacob M. (Joanna) Failor, seven great grandchildren, Harry, Claire, Lucy and Brett Ogle, and Claudia, George, and Lola Failor, two sisters, Sherry (Ron) Miller of Bellefontaine, and Shirley Caldwell of Bradenton, FL, and 19 nieces and nephews.

Claire was a 1940 graduate of Middletown High School. During WWII, she worked as the secretary for Armco Steel in Middletown, OH. She also worked as a teacher's aide at Lakeview Elementary and for the family ice cream shop in Russells Point. Claire was a member of Indian Lake Community Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher for 30 years. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and Indian Lake Historical Society. She enjoyed traveling, especially to the Maine coast and antiquing.

Pastors Karen Blackburn and Jim Ellington will begin funeral services at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 27, 2015 at the Indian Lake Community Church, 120 Orchard Island Road, Russells Point, OH. Visitation is Thursday, February 26th from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at SHOFFSTALL FUNERAL HOME, 205 S Main Street, Lakeview, OH and one hour prior to services at the church. Burial is in Huntsville Cemetery.

Contributions may be given in her name to the Indian Lake Community Church Memorial Fund.
