WEST LIBERTY - Wanda S. Shumaker, 93, of West Liberty, passed away at 9:07 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2018 in her home at Green Hills Inn in West Liberty, Ohio. She was born January 26, 1924 on a farm near West Liberty and is the oldest of four children born to William Howard and Anna S. King Shumaker.

Wanda will be lovingly remembered by her brother William Howard "Bill" (Eleanor) Shumaker; a sister, Jeanette (Kenneth) Hostetler; six nieces and one nephew; as well as many great-nieces and nephews. Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Anna S. King Shumaker (1976), her father William Howard Shumaker (1993), a nephew, Neil Hostetler (1998) and a sister, Annabelle Hostetler (2014).

Wanda taught elementary school in Berlin, Indiana, Urbana Local and West Liberty-Salem for thirty-one years before retiring from teaching. In the early years of her teaching career she spent summers in Goshen, Indiana earning her bachelor's degree in education from Goshen College. After retiring from teaching in 1977, Wanda worked as Housekeeping Supervisor at Green Hills Nursing Center. She held this position for twelve years before fully retiring.

Throughout her life she also enjoyed traveling, maintaining her home and yard in immaculate condition and, until recently, she was an active gardener. Wanda was a life-long member of Bethel Mennonite and will be remembered for her wonderfully themed and decorated bulletin boards. She was also an avid Ohio State sports fan and made a point of following the news and politics.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at Green Hills Inn and Universal Health Hospice for their attentiveness and loving care.
