Charlotte M. Ennis(1929 - 2018)

WELLSVILLE - Charlotte M. Ennis, 88, passed away Saturday (Sept. 1, 2018) at Wellsville Manor Care Center following a lengthy illness surrounded by family.

Mrs. Ennis was born on September 10, 1929 in Oil City, Pa. to Charles Huntley and Frieda (Wheeling) Blackman. She earned her GED and was a graduate of Paul Dine's School of Beauty in Watertown. She worked at several local salons including Glamour Spot and Paul Decker's Beauty Salon, both in Wellsville. Charlotte also worked as a bartender at Jolly Dee's and Wellsville Country Club.

Charlotte is survived by her children Brian (Mary) Ennis of Andover and Darcy Ennis of Wellsville as well as an "adopted daughter," Jill (Michael) Haney of Scio; five grandchildren, Becky, Rhonda, Robert, Kody, and Tiffany; numerous great grandchildren; two sisters, Bonnie Neal of Wellsville and Mildred (Maurice) Lowery of Pleasanton, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Along with her parents, Charlotte was preceded in death by two sisters, Ann Burchfield and Dixie Duston.

Charlotte was a great homemaker and a caregiver at heart. Caring for her family was the priority for her but for many years she was also a "Nanny" for another local family and enjoyed caring for those children as well. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening with Darcy and each year accumulated her trophies of summer through canning pickles, jelly, and tomatoes, often with Jill at her side. She spent time teaching Darcy to crochet and knit and she enjoyed baking and cooking and passed that on by teaching her daughters. She was always a very patient teacher.

In winter, Charlotte would pull out her skis to enjoy the outdoors via cross country skiing. Other activities that delighted her were golfing and traveling. She particularly enjoyed her vacations to California and Texas. Some of her special times included "yard sale-ing" with her sisters and her niece, Kandy. Charlotte was an animal lover, especially of dogs and cats. She was active in the First Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wellsville where she sometimes participated in leading services.

There will be no prior visitation. There will be a memorial service on Saturday (Oct. 20) at 2:30 p.m. at Baker-Swan Funeral Home, 3256 Riverside Drive in Wellsville with her brother-in-law, Rev. Carl Kemp of the Knights Creek Evangelical Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Online condolences may be offered at www.baker-swan.com.

Memorial contributions in Charlotte's name may be made to SPCA Serving Allegany County, PO Box 381, Wellsville, NY 14895.
