John William "'Bill'" Higby Obituary
LAKELAND, Fla. - John William "Bill"?Higby, 2501 Cresap St., went home to heaven on Saturday (March 1, 2014). He died at home after a long illness. He was born May 27, 1934, in Cattaraugus County, N.Y., son of the late Leon and Helen Higby. He married Crystal A. Wilkins on Aug. 18, 1956, in West Clarksville, N.Y. He attended Richburg School.

Surviving along with his wife are his sons, John (Cathy) Higby and Ricky Higby of Friendship, N.Y.; daughters, Patricia (Terry) Crawford of Lawndale, N.C., and Tammy (Kelly) Wheaton of Lakeland, Fla.; 16 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews as well as his dog companion, Dixie. He was predeceased by his parents; 3 sons, Billy, Ronald and Scott Higby; daughter, Bonnie Higby Leasure; granddaughter, Brandi Higby; and many beloved pets, including Chelsea and Bandit.

Bill worked for many years as a truck driver and construction worker. He owned Higby's Home Services for several years before retiring in 2007. He attended K-ville Assembly's of God in Auburndale, Fla., and United Church of Friendship. He was a past member of the AmVets, VFW and American Legion in Cuba, N.Y. He enjoyed time with family, buying and selling at auctions and flea markets and working around his house and yard. He was also an avid Nascar fan, enjoyed stock car racing and was a driver himself at many local tracks in the 1960s.

There will be a celebration of life memorial at United Church of Friendship on Sunday (March 16, 2014) at 1:30 p.m.
