Mavis O. Hija Obituary
WELLSVILLE - Mavis O. Hija, 86, a resident of Highland Healthcare Center in Wellsville, a former resident of Angelica, passed away peacefully Thursday (June 12, 2014).

Born in Friendship, June 12, 1928, the daughter of DeForest and Martha (Scott) Crandall, she was a lifelong area resident, returning from Michigan in 1961. She was a member of the Angelica United Methodist Church. Mavis enjoyed knitting, crocheting, painting, reading, Ice Hockey, and the New York Yankees.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Hija in 1967; her daughter, Alice Hija Horton in 1968; as well as her 3 brothers, Harold, Robert and Clayton Crandall; and 2 sisters, Elizabeth Crandall Bentley and Mary Decker.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Jerry) Phelps of Tioga, Pa.; 2 sons, Thomas Hija of Osceola, Pa., and Raymond Hija of Campbell; 2 grandchildren, of which she raised Donita Cryer of Louisiana, and Stephen Horton of North Carolina; her sister, Laura (Walter) Fuhrer of Elkland, Pa.; her sister-in-law, Delores Crandall of Angelica; 11 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will be present Monday (June 16, 2014) at the Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 101 West Avenue, Angelica, from noon-1 p.m., where funeral services will be at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Tim Middleton officiating. Burial will be in Until the Day Dawn Cemetery.
