1942 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Gary D. Harrison Obituary
WHITESVILLE - Gary D. Harrison, 71, of County Rd. 19 in Whitesville, passed away Friday morning (March 21, 2014). He passed away in his home from a cardiac arrest.

Gary was the son of George and Myrtle Harrison, born April 8, 1942. He has three surviving siblings, Stanley (Geraldine)?Harrison of Dansville, Ardeth Lee of Clifton Springs, and Stewart (Eleanor)?Harrison of Sarasota, Fla. They were raised in the country side of Whitesville, with young Gary enjoying all that came with the country living life. Gary was always telling his grandchildren about running down dirt roads with friends, fishing in a near-by creek and riding horses all over, along with telling stories of hard work to be done on the farm and neighbors' farms.

Gary had been married to Bonita Whitsell, who survives him, since March 6, 1976. After a 38.5 year run with Foster Wheeler, he retired and continued his father's legacy with Harrison's Harness Shop full time and worked with passion until his last day. He was renowned for his leather work, often receiving orders from other states and countries. He was proud to say all his work was hand-crafted with All-American leather. Stepping into his shop was like stepping back in time from all the antiques that were displayed and still used in the dying art of leather work. He often searched flea-markets for antiques, commenting on the memories that each item brought back to him.

Gary is survived by 5 children, Doug (Robin)?Harrison of Belfast, Mark (Lorri)?Harrison of Chatsworth, Ga., Lee Harrison of Ludlow, England, Tammy (David)?Brackett of Arkport, and William (Jennifer)?Harrison of Whitesville. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Amanda,?Shawn, Tyler and Katie of Mark and Lorri, Morgan and George of Lee, Maddie of William and Jennifer, also Dani and Patty of Tammy and David, along with 3 great-grandchildren, Nevaeh of Katie, Haden of Tyler, and Mayson of Danielle. Gary was always thought of as a family man, being very close to all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always the man to ask if you needed a donation for a club, especially for a horse club or 4-H. He also supported the children with buying from all the fund-raisers, no matter what kind they were.

The family of Gary invites friends and family to the calling hours at Howard's Funeral Home in Whitesville. The hours will be Wednesday, March 26, 6-8 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The funeral the family invites close family and friends to attend will be Friday, March 28, at 11 a.m. The family would like to make a special thanks to the doctors that had treated Gary, to the staff that helped the family and also treated Gary, and the drivers and medics of Independence Ambulance and Medical Transport Services. A great man will be missed by many.
