CURNOW, Doreen Annette 1928 – 2014 With sad hearts we announce the sudden passing of Doreen Curnow on January 2, 2014. Her husband of over 30 years, Geoffrey, predeceased her in 1990. Her loving family will remember her always. Doreen is survived by daughters Doris (Larry) Pepper; Diane Curnow; grandsons Owen and Adam Pepper; great grandchildren Dylan, Catherine, Ethan, Matthew and Leo; her sisters Hazel Robinson and June Roach, and many treasured nieces, nephews and cousins. Doreen was born in Golden, B.C. and as a child moved with her family to Vancouver Island. Duncan became her new home. She spoke fondly or her early years working at the Duncan hospital as a record keeper. She fell in love and married Geoff Curnow and they came to Nanaimo. Once she saw the Nanaimo harbour she said she never wanted to leave such a beautiful place. Doreen worked for the Harewood Improvement District office for a few years and then moved to the City of Nanaimo Public Works Yard. She loved the challenge of her new position. Doreen set up the office and was the first and only woman amidst 100 men. Her interest in and the knowledge about construction, cars, and sports helped her fit right in. Doreen had a very caring and generous nature. People of all ages were drawn to her. She listened well and gave wise, thought-provoking, and often amusing responses. Doreen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother; a loyal, kind and giving friend, and a mentor to many. We will hold her in our hearts forever. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 13th, 2014 at 11:30 am at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Nanaimo. Sands ~ Nanaimo
