Jody Richard Hansen, 47,passed away Friday Aug 23, 2013 in Nanaimo BC. He was born in Dartmouth, N.S April 25, 1966 to Judith Sullivan and Flemming Hansen. As a child in a military family, Jody attended many schools across Canada including Dartmouth and Belmont High Schools. He worked at the Canadian Embassy in Washington DC for four years.
In 2002 he moved to Atlanta Georgia where he met Julie Sue Smith. They were married February 2003 and had four children together. They lived in Alpharetta, Georgia where Jody owned and operated Specialty Concrete Finishes. They were divorced in 2008. Jody moved to Victoria where he lived for three years before moving to Nanaimo in October 2012. Jody was known for his warm personality, his wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. He loved people and often put the needs of others above his own. Jody played hockey as a child and young adult but his true passion was being on the water. He loved boats, fishing and the outdoors. He is survived by his ex-wife Julie, children Sarah, Benjamin, Amy and Eva Marie Hansen of Alpharetta Georgia, parents Judith and Flemming Hansen of Alexandria, VA, brothers Christian Hansen of Amherst N.S and F. Paul Hansen and sister in law Mursal Zalmai of Alexandria VA, aunts and uncles David and Diane Sullivan of Halifax, NS, William and Gloria Jean Falkenham of Halifax NS, Colleen Sullivan of Victoria BC, Dick and Coleen Sullivan of Mt Uniacke NS; and Finn and Janet Hansen of Toulon Man.
He is predeceased by his uncle Jon Faiser 2011 of Victoria BC and his aunt Francis Hansen of Winnipeg Man.
Visitation and prayer service will be at Sands Funeral Home Friday Aug 30, 2013 from 3PM -5PM. A celebration of Jody's life will be held at Edgewood Saturday August 31, 2013 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM. Our special thanks and appreciation go to the Edgewood Staff, Aunt Colleen, his friends and the recovery community in Nanaimo who took him into their fold. We will be forever grateful for the love and support you bestowed on Jody.
