Stein, David
Stein, David David Stephen Stein, 71, passed away on May 12, 2016 in Stuart, Florida. Born in New Britain, CT on March 21, 1945, he was the son of Jacob and Ruth (Shilepsky) Stein. David grew up in Westport in a large extended family and attended Cherry Lawn School during his high school years. Some may remember him from the family-owned North Main Garage where he worked with his father and uncle. Later, he served in the US Army with a tour of duty in Korea. An avid fisherman, David loved Long Island Sound and was the owner of the Westport Tackle Shop for many years. He earned a Captain's license and partnered in a commercial fishing project for a time. After relocating to Florida, he opened another marine supply store. David was always an enthusiastic collector of fishing and marine paraphernalia and later broadened his collecting to general memorabilia and antiques. In more recent years, he owned an antique shop in Stuart. He is survived by his wife Jane Palmer Stein; his children Heather (Stein) Knight and Tad Stein; his brother Richard Stein; and three grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Any contributions to David's memory may be made to The Connecticut Fund for the Environment-Save the Sound, 900 Chapel Street, Upper Mezzanine, New Haven, CT 06570.
