Barbara G. Lathan, age 73, of Southport, CT died peacefully at St. Vincents Medical Center in Bridgeport with her family and friends at her side. Born on 17 November 1940 in New Britain, Barbara was the wife of the late Dr. Albert James Lathan Jr. and daughter of the late Sally and Harold Hultberg. She was a graduate of New Britain High School and attended the University of Connecticut and the University of Milan in Italy.
Barbara was a past president of the Connecticut March of Dimes, a member of the Junior League and donated her time and talents in decorating the Governors Mansion in Hartford during the Meskill administration.
She was the first woman elected to the Parish Council of St. Maurice Church, hosted numerous house and garden tours and was the alternate player for the Government of Bermuda's croquet team, where she lived for much of the year with her family designing hotels, and the Bermuda College. Her husband's work took her to Fairfield county where she continued her career designing homes in Tokenke Darien, and interiors for Lillian August.
Barbara enjoyed a good game of Scrabble at Compo Beach in Westport, traveling extensively and hosting elegant holidays and events at her home that were memorable. Barbara was a unique, interesting and vivacious person. She was a wonderful wife, mother and friend. She possessed a love of life, generous spirit, good humor and courage in spades.
Barbara is survived by her only child Linda Lee and her English Springer, Rugby.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday 10 AM at Our Lady of Peace Church, 10 Ivy St, Stratford, CT 06615. Burial will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, New Canaan. Calling Hours are Wednesday 5 to 7 PM at Carlson Funeral Home, 45 Franklin Square, New Britain, Barbara's city of birth and former residence.
