Mary Boatner Gamsu, a longtime Westport resident, died April 5th in Issaquah, Washington after a brief illness. She was 85.
Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, Mary received her masters degree from Northwestern University
in Evanston, IL and enjoyed an acting career in many Broadway plays and around the country.
Mary moved to Westport in 1965 where she raised two children and was active at the United Methodist Church, Westport Library, Westport YMCA and the Women's Club. She moved to Washington state in 2010 to join her daughter. Mary had a passion for literature, history and was a talented artist. She enjoyed attending classes at Norwalk Community College and appreciated the beauty of nature around her. She especially loved her friends and family who brought her great joy. She will be deeply missed.
Mary is predeceased by her husband Jerry Gamsu. She is survived by her daughter Miranda Gamsu Thorpe and her husband David of Redmond, WA and her son Charles Gamsu and his wife Wendy of Bethany, CT and four grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Westport Women's Club June 28th at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Mary's memory to the Westport Library.
