Despina Mary Pappas, 98, of 2130 Harrison, Quincy, died at 7:02 p.m. Friday (March 7, 2014) in Blessing Hospital.
Mary was born May 1, 1915, in Chios, Greece, a daughter of Lazarus and Maria Takos Hidir. She married Louie Pappas on Sept. 3, 1938, in Warren, Ohio. He died on Aug. 5, 1973. She was a member of St. John's Anglican Parish, where she was a very active volunteer. She also had been a volunteer for many years as a Gray Lady at Blessing Hospital. Her husband, Louie, had owned and operated Louie's Lunch Room. Survivors include a son, Lee (Denise) Pappas of Quincy; two daughters, Rosemary (Peter) Petroll of Wauwatosa, Wis., and Diana Pappas of Kankakee; and four grandchildren, Paul (Margo) Petroll of Sobieski, Wis., Andrew Petroll of Milwaukee, Wis., Lee (Shante) Pappas of Morgan Hill, Calif., and Andrea Ausmus of Redondo Beach, Calif. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. SERVICES: 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Wee Kirk Chapel at the Good Samaritan Home, with the Rev. Patrick Smith conducting. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park. VISITATION: 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Good Samaritan Home. It was such an honor and privilege to take care of "Miss Mary" as I called her. She was such a wonderful woman with many stories to tell. I already miss her hugs and kisses. God Bless you all, you are in my Thoughts and Prayers!
